Shauna Morrison • Village Galleries Maui

Lynn Shue, owner/director Village Galleries…

I first met Shauna and saw her unique hand fabricated art jewelry shortly after her arrival on Maui in 1992. Her designs stood out as original art I would be proud to carry in my galleries. 2019 celebrates 27 years of proudly representing this talented artist. Shauna’s unique hand-made pieces are featured at our Kapalua location, off the lobby at The Ritz-Carlton.

Artist’s Statement... Lately, Iʻve been having a tremendous amount of fun creating the Galaxy Series of rings. By pushing various precious metals to their limit through a combination of fusing, filing and polishing, each ring is transformed into a unique wearable piece of art. Becoming a metalsmith/jeweler was a very indirect path for me. Always collecting stones, in 1980 I took my first lapidary course while living in London. Later I enrolled at the University of Washington and studied Ancient History, Geography and Geology. But it was not until after an inspiring trip to the highlands of Ecuador that I decided to choose art as my full time career. It was here in a small town called Banos where I apprenticed, learning traditional jewelry fabrication techniques. Here I learned to pour molten metal into an ingot, draw the metal into wire or sheets and then forge to shape. In 1990 I moved to San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico and further apprenticed in stone carving.
