Artist's Statement…
My interest in art began at age six when my grandfather gave me my first paint set. After vacationing on Maui for many years, my wife, Kathy, and I sold our business in Los Angeles and moved to Kula. We built our dream home and now I'm happily painting Maui almost daily.

Joe Fletcher has been represented by Village Gallery since 2004 where he has been a featured artist in group exhibitions and a one-man show.

Private art lessons after school and taking every art class his schools offered, led to Joe's years at Woodbury College, Los Angeles in the early sixties, majoring in art. He worked each day after class at L. R. Canrobert, one of Los Angeles' fine art importers. There he repaired paintings, using the techniques of masters. He also learned to frame and sell paintings. Joe opened a gallery and studio in Los Angeles in 1964. Several years ago Joe and his wife, Kathy, sold the business and made the move to Maui.

Kathy teaches anthropology at Maui Community College and Joe trudges through cow pastures, old sugar mills, under waterfalls and into volcanoes, painting the many scenic treasures of Maui with great enthusiasm. Joe's paintings have been shown and sold in several venues here in Hawaii including the annual juried exhibition, Art Maui, Hui No'eau Visual Art Center and the Hawaii Watercolor Society. His work is in the collection of the State of Hawaii, as well as many corporate and private collections. Lynn Shue, owner/director Village Galleries…
Changing media is quite a challenge for most artists but Joe Fletcher has handled moving to plein air oils from watercolor with ease. In the past few years, Joe's work has taken on a vibrancy and displays his energetic attitude for life. His strong and harshly applied color draws you in and shows his love for Maui and painting.
