She was commissioned to paint a specific area of Wailea, Maui for the Alexander & Baldwin annual stockholders report and the results of her efforts, "Beach Walkway at Wailea" is now on permanent display in their Honolulu offices. Her oil painting "Hong Kong" won top purchase award at the first Art Maui juried show in 1979, and three times her oils have been selected for the AMFAC Island Holidays Calendar award.

She also has seven large oil paintings that were commissioned and are in the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Hotel in Maui, Hawaii. Represented by Village Galleries since the early 1970's, Joyce's original oils are featured at our Lahaina and Kapalua locations.

Lynn Shue, Village Galleries -owner/director… This past year we have lost an exceptional artist and friend. Joyce Clark passed away in January 2009. We will so miss her cheerful smile and constant encouragement.
Joyce was with the Gallery since the 70’s and always made her love for Maui, painting and friends her top priorities.

We will continue to proudly present original works and giclees by Joyce Clark as long as they are available. Her work will always bring joy to all who view it.

Joyce Clark epitomizes the definition of a fine artist. She is of the school of hard work. Her professionalism is so admired by all. Knowing the technical steps is so imperative to building a good painting. Joyce puts a lifetime of love for art in each painting. With meticulous care and complete knowledge of her oil medium she creates water that stirs the soul, mountains that touch the sky and flowers so fragrant they seem to beckon you. Never is there a feeling of uneasiness or uncertainty when viewing her work. Using either brush or palette knife masterfully, Joyce expresses the moods and textures of Maui with such ease that everyone feels calm and peaceful as they experience one of Joyce's beautiful paintings. Having explored Maui's hidden reaches from seaside shores to upcountry trails with pools and waterfalls, Joyce paints a colorful cross-section of Maui's impressive beauty.

Joyce Clark was raised in the famous Art Colony of Laguna Beach, California.Ê In 1970 she moved to the island of Maui where she lived and painted for 25 years; 10 of those years in the beautiful countryside of Hana, Maui known as "the last Hawaiian place." She now makes her home in Sunriver, Oregon.
Following her formal education at Whittier College and University of California at Los Angeles, she spent many years as a commercial artist and a ceramic decorator before becoming deeply involved in oil painting and mosaic murals.

Joyce has been commissioned to paint numerous oil paintings for private collections around the world as well as to create mosaics that grace the walls of many public structures. Among these murals are the 12'x16' mosaic "St. Francis of Assissi" that is on the St Francis Hospital in Lynwood; California' "Future in Space" a mural in Tulare High School, Tulare, California; four mosaic murals in the Congregational Church in Laguna Beach, California; four Cortese Crest murals in Leisure World in Laguna Hills, California and a mosaic cross in the "Church of the Community" in Honokowai, Maui, Hawaii.
