"Lei Day" Oil (sold) Lahaina 2012 Poster image

2012 has been filled with honors for this Lahaina artist. Carleton's painting, "Lei Day" was selected for the 2012 LahainaTown Poster.

An annual participant in the prestigious Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational, Carleton won the Best of Show award at this year's event.

2012 also marked the 20th anniversary of Carlton's participation in Celebration of the Arts, Maui's premier art and cultural event, co-sponsored by Village Galleries. He has created one of the poster images for this event as well.

Carleton is the first artist to receive the "Creativity Grant" which gave him sponsorship for one year providing studio space and supplies enabling him to focus on larger works. See details to the right and plan to join us at the festive reception.

Artist's Statement…
"It’s been an exciting challenge to capture West Maui’s uncommon landscape. As the sun rises over the mountain, the early morning light shows the beauty of everything it touches. I’m drawn to the subjects in Lahaina that are undeveloped, showing Maui’s natural drama, and subjects showing our unique island life-style, especially the harbors."

JULY 5 - 18, 2013 • "8 X 8 BY TWO"

Exhibition of small works by Macario Pascual and Carleton

Reception Friday, July 5th, 6 -9 p.m.

Village Gallery • 120 Dickenson Street • Lahaina

Artist's Statement....Macario and I have been painting on location together for almost a year. We have got up at 4:00 A.M. in order to get on location at Ukumehame to paint the first shades of light over the valley. We have painted in the mid-day sun at Olowalu to capture palm tress in dusty fields.
We have been motivating each other to do more painting, and stretch our artistic boundaries. I was doing larger paintings on location until Macario had the idea to do a show of 8 x 8 inch paintings. That is a lot smaller than I usually paint, but it sounded like a fun challenge to edit down the image and still have enough info to make a strong painting. I think it's going to be a great show of small paintings with a large impact.
